Alejandra "Alex" Ruani leads the research division at The Health Sciences Academy, where she and her team of accomplished PhDs and scientists make sense of complex scientific literature and translate it into easy-to-understand practical concepts for students. She is a Harvard-trained scientists and UCL doctoral researcher who specialises in cravings and appetite neurobiology, nutrition biochemistry, and nutrigenomics.
She is also a REPs qualified Personal Trainer and is known for having helped hundreds of women who struggled with their body weight and food addiction – particularly if they have tried everything.
Alex is an educator and a scientific researcher in the fields of nutrition science, food and eating addiction, and behavioural neuroscience. As a Research Director, she analyses and makes sense of the scientific literature and data from her empirical research funded by The Health Sciences Academy, and translates these into easy-to-understand practical concepts for her students.
Before joining The Health Sciences Academy, Alex has worked with world-leading scientists, and condensed hundreds of studies and proven methods to help clients separate weight loss fads from facts and to enable them to work out how to reach their ideal weight quickly and permanently in the most convenient way. Alex studied a myriad of scientific papers and connected with leading experts, all of which inspired her to coach women on practical ways to enjoy losing weight through a personalised approach. She quickly established herself as a powerful force in the weight loss market, to later lead the research team at The Health Sciences Academy.
Alex’s approach is dual: anything she puts forward must be both scientifically proven and personalised around the unique biochemistry of the individual.
Alex is in Food Matters Live, The Huffington Post, MindBodyGreen, and a host of other major publications such as Bella Magazine and The Sun. Alex is a regular speaker at renowned seminars and a professional member of The Nutrition Society, the Society for Neuroscience (SfN), and the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES), amongst others.
