Coeliac disease

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease (caused by immune responses from our own body damaging our cells). In coeliac disease, a genetic mutation in either the HLA-DQ2 or HLA-DQ8 genes makes these cells sensitive to gluten. The primary symptom of coeliac disease is persistent diarrhoea. Other symptoms include abdominal pain, weight loss, anaemia, fatigue, tiredness, nausea, and a “foggy” mind. Many of these symptoms are also contributed to by nutrient deficiencies.
