Child development

Childhood can be considered the time from birth or 1 year of age (after infancy) to puberty.
Toddlers are considered to be children aged 1 to 3 years. From 1 to 2 years, milestones include walking alone, using utensils to eat, can recognise a number of objects, copies others, speaking about 2 to 4-word sentences, and shows defiant behaviours (like refusal to eat, sleep, or bath).
Preschool aged children are generally between 3 and 5 or 6 years of age, while school-aged children are usually between the ages of 6 to 12 (or until puberty). During these stages, the child is continuing to physically grow and develop motor skills. Key achievements during this stage of a child’s life tend to be around intellectual, social, and emotional aspects.
