Stress

Different fields define stress differently. In the discipline of psychology and biology, stress is the response of the mind and body to a demand. Positive stress is often called eustress, challenge, or stimulation. Negative stress is often called distress. When people speak of stress, they are normally referring to this negative stress. When we are stressed, the body reactions in what is called the “stress response” and the following pathways may be upregulated: sympathetic-adrenal-medullary (SAM) axis and the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. What we eat and drink may also regulate these pathways, and thus have the potential to dampen or enhance a stress response.
