How to Integrate Your Fertility Expertise into Your Nutrition Practice

Fertility maybe one niche that you’ve never considered for your nutrition business. However, in 2014, a survey showed that around 40% of US women surveyed have expressed concern about their ability to have a child.

With such prevalent numbers, it only makes sense to address potential fertility issues within your range of specialisations. Whether this is a niche you prefer or just a topic that needs to be on your radar, fertility nutrition science is important.

The link between fertility and nutrition…

There are many factors which influence fertility success and nutrition is one of them. This includes body weight, nutrient intake, inflammation, exposure to toxins in the environment, age, genetics and more.

Ultimately, you want your clients to become long term, and to stay with you for all of their nutrition needs. Being able to offer additional services like fertility nutritional advising can make that decision even easier for them.

However, it’s important to make sure that it’s also a topic that you’re comfortable with. Some professionals would rather avoid the topic of fertility for personal reasons, while others may avoid it because they don’t want to have those types of sensitive conversations with their clients.

The key is making sure that you’re prepared to handle the needs of your nutrition clients in a professional way.

How to approach your clients with sensitive topics.

Fertility is something that can cause a wide range of feelings for your clients. Directly approaching current or prospective clients with a poorly planned pitch that jumps straight into the topic is both insensitive and bad for business.

The best way to make people aware of your fertility nutritional advising services is to market them as part of your practice. Let people know that you offer fertility nutritional services and give them the option of adding these to their packages using discreet forms or appropriate conversations about their needs.

Be understanding, practice active listening, and don’t push anything on customers who aren’t ready to consider the topics. Always ask customers if they’re comfortable discussing issues of fertility and pregnancy before jumping into the conversation.

And keep in mind, you may not always be helping people with only problems. There will also be times when you’re simply advising people who are ready to begin their journey toward parenthood! This can be an extremely rewarding professional position if you’re up for it…
